Daniel Farke will do something he’s never done before if Leeds United beat Portsmouth

Leeds United take on Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon with Daniel Farke’s side desperate to get back to winning ways after failing to beat West Brom last time out.

Leeds drew with West Brom on Saturday as Junior Firpo’s header was cancelled out by Darnell Furlong. The Whites had chances to make it 2-1, with Mateo Joseph coming closest as his toe poke hit the bar.

Failure to win saw Sheffield United and Burnley close the gap, with three points separating the top two and five points the difference between Leeds and third-placed Burnley in the Championship play-offs.

That gap is likely to shorten further with both Sheffield United and Burnley in action on Saturday, and Leeds going to Portsmouth on Sunday lunchtime. Leeds have been poor during lunchtime kick-offs.

Daniel Farke has never beaten Portsmouth as a manager

The first game of the 2024-25 season saw Leeds take on Portsmouth at Elland Road, and the two sides played out an enthralling 3-3 draw – at least, for the neutral. Jayden Bogle conceded a late penalty.

Portsmouth went 3-2 up only for Brenden Aaronson to come off the bench and score. It was only the second time Daniel Farke has faced Portsmouth, losing to Pompey with Norwich in the FA Cup in 2019.

So if Leeds are to get back to winning ways, then Farke will have to do something he has never done in his managerial career – and secure a win against Portsmouth even if, he has only faced Pompey twice.

David Prutton’s predictions favour Burnley in race for promotion

Former Leeds United midfielder Prutton has given his Championship predictions for the weekend and he thinks Leeds will struggle to beat Pompey. Prutton has predicted a 2-2 draw between the two sides.

Prutton also gave his verdict on Sheffield United and Burnley’s results, and thinks Burnley will ease to a 2-0 win over struggling Luton. However, Prutton reckons Sheffield United will fail to beat Preston at home.

If Prutton’s predictions come true, the gap between Leeds and Sheffield United will remain the same but it will see Burnley close the gap by two points. Burnley will go 2nd as they have a better goal difference.
