David Prutton predicts the result of Leeds United vs Portsmouth and fans will be worried

Leeds United will be desperate to get back to winning ways after failing to beat West Brom last weekend, but face a potential banana skin with a trip to Portsmouth.

Leeds remain three points clear of Sheffield United at the top of the Championship, and perhaps more importantly, five points in front of the play-off positions with Burnley currently sitting in third place.

The Whites go to a Portsmouth side that had won three games in a row against Cardiff, Oxford United and QPR only to lose at home to Luton. Pompey currently sit in 17th, eight points above 22nd place.

They will be desperate to push themselves away further from the relegation zone and will take solace in that they managed to steal a point from Elland Road on the opening day of the season, drawing 3-3.

David Prutton predicts Leeds United to go winless again

Portsmouth is a tricky game. If the Championship table was based purely off of home result, the newly-promoted side would sit in 11th place – winning eight of their 17 games and losing only four times.

Speaking to The Essential EFL podcast, former Leeds midfielder Prutton was asked for his prediction ahead of Sunday lunchtime’s clash between Leeds and Portsmouth – and he thinks it will be a 2-2 draw.

“You’ve got to give some credit to West Brom. You can get sucked into the Leeds narrative but West Brom have a very, very adept squad at this level. I think this is a really tough one for Leeds,” Prutton said.

“Very vocal at home, they will love Leeds travelling down, this has the makings of a really good match. Leeds are a Premier League team in waiting. I’m going to go 2-2. A rambunctious Sunday afternoon.”

David Prutton also predicts Burnley and Sheffield United games

Burnley and Sheffield United are in action on Saturday, with second and third place both having home games before Leeds take to the field. Leeds will be top on Sunday, but it may only be on goal difference.

Burnley are at home to struggling Luton, though they finally conceded a league goal in the week during a 2-1 win over Cardiff. Luton got a win last time out against Leeds’ opponents Portsmouth last time out.

Paul Heckingbottom returns to Sheffield United with his Preston side. Prutton believes Burnley will cruise to a 2-0 home win at Turf Moor, but he believes Preston may nab a point at Bramall Lane in a 2-2 draw.
