Daniel Farke should give 21-year-old his very last chance for Leeds United on Sunday

Daniel Farke could use Sunday’s FA Cup tie at Peterborough United to rotate his Leeds United side.

Leeds have just come out of the busiest period of their season with four matches in nine days over Christmas, and those who started all of them could potentially do with a rest.

Farke would be wise to rest key attacking stars like Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter as Leeds cannot really afford to lose either through injury in their promotion push.

So, with that in mind, that could open the door for some attacking players on the fringes to come in and stake a claim for a more regular role in the league.

One man who will be hoping for a start, in what could actually be his last chance to impress Farke with the transfer window now open, is Joe Gelhardt.

Farke should hand Gelhardt last chance

Gelhardt has been heavily linked with a move away from Elland Road in the early stages of the window, with an exit most likely to be a loan amid interest from several Championship clubs.

The 21-year-old has played just five minutes of football since September and is seemingly some way down the pecking order, despite his favoured number 10 position an are Leeds are lacking depth.

Farke is reluctant to lose anyone from his squad this month but ultimately, he is now at an age where he needs to be playing regularly and his development is being wasted.

Gelhardt has looked a far cry from the player that first broke into Leeds’ first team back in 2021, but if Farke really does want him to stay, he should be handed an opportunity in the FA Cup on Sunday as a last chance to impress.

If he cannot get minutes in this sort of game, then the indications are that he won’t at all this season and it would be unfair for him to stick around.
