Phil Hay has reported on The Athletic that Daniel Farke thinks Leeds United ace Crysencio Summerville is more of a no.10, than a winger. Summerville has made a superb start to the 23-24 campaign at Leeds.
Summerville, 21, got off to a wonderful start – a goal anmd an assist in the 2-2 draw against Cardiff. He has since shown plenty of glimpses of magic against Salford – hitting the post – and then Wednesday.
He was used as a right winger against Sheffield Wednesday, with Farke preferring to use Joel Piroe in the 10 role behind Georginio Rutter. A bit of a surprise – but all of his front four can chop and change.
It might be next time out, that Rutter goes out wide, Piroe moves up top and Summerville moves inside to the no.10 position. Indeed, Farke is believed to see Rutter as more of a winger – than, a central no.9.
Summerville has always been used as a winger. The odd game under Marcelo Bielsa, and then last term, his breakthrough season starting under Jesse Marsch. But now, Farke could mould him into a no.10.

Summerville starred with that bit of freedom in the 10 role against Salford. It looked natural. Removing all of his defensive responsibility out wide makes sense. Luke Ayling has been seen shouting at him before.
So, pushing Rutter out wide – where Farke is believed to have told the Leeds board he sees the French talent at his best – and moving Summerville inside, looks like players playing in their best positions.
Piroe has been brought in to score goals and while he likes to come deep to get involved in play, he can still do that from the no.9 role – as long as he gets up the pitch when there is a chance to cross it in.
What is key, is that Leeds have managed to keep a player like Summerville at Elland Road this season. Fabrizio Romano said Burnley table £20m for him and it is good to see The 49ers reject a bid for him.
