Daniel Farke says Leeds United summer signing has found things ‘difficult’, he will get better

Daniel Farke has insisted there is even ‘more to come’ from Glen Kamara at Leeds United.

Farke was speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Leeds’ trip to Leicester City on Friday, where he asked about Kamara’s start to life at Elland Road, as well as his experience around the place.

Kamara made the £5 million move to West Yorkshire from Rangers in the final 48 hours of the transfer window after a summer full of speculation linking him with Leeds.

The 28-year-old was always going to leave Rangers following the end of last season, with former manager Michael Beale making him train away from the rest of the first team squad in pre-season.

Kamara was forced to bide his time for regular minutes during the early weeks of his Leeds career, having gone almost three minutes without playing a competitive match.

Including a 3-0 win over Watford on September 23, Kamara has started five of Leeds’ last seven games, improving week by week. Farke, however, insists there is even more to come.

He said: “I think in general we have a really young squad when you look at our average age in the squad. Glen, we don’t have to speak about his CV he’s played for Rangers where they have to win every week.

“It was difficult for him in the start because he didn’t have a pre-season and wasn’t involved that much in the second-half of last season. There’s still more to come and he needs more time.

“He’s still needs to sharpen up a bit in a physical way due to his lack of game time but the more he plays the better his endurance will be. He’s a top team-mate and lad. He’s a great guy to have around.”

Kamara was always going to take some time to settle at Leeds after such a lack of pre-season at Rangers, but there is no doubt we are starting to see what a good player he is.

His quality and calmness on the ball is now crucial to the way Farke wants to play, and when he is fully up to speed, he will be head and shoulders above most midfielders at this level.

At 28, he is almost one of the most experienced players in the squad, and so is definitely a really good influence to those around him.
