It was a 12th win in 13 League games for Leeds United on Sunday as they cruised past Millwall to win and go top of the table – but Daniel Farke says Leeds could be without a key player next time.
The win sees Leeds sit ahead of Leicester going into the international break, though the Whites have played a game extra than Enzo Maresca‘s men – with Leicester in FA Cup action on Sunday afternoon.
With the break now in force, the anticipation for Championship football to return will be great than ever – as one of the League’s best-ever title races reaches its climax. Leeds are winning that race right now.
Next up for Leeds in the race for automatic promotion and the Championship title is Watford away, on the Friday night after the break. An immediate return to action for those that are on international duty.
Farke has already told his press conference on Sunday – as per Leeds Live – that he could be without the services of left-back Junior Firpo, who is off to represent the Dominican Republic during the break.
“We have 10 training days before the Good Friday game with the group that stays. Travel on Thursday before Watford. Not sure Firpo will even make it back for kick-off. Next two days are important to enjoy.”
Daniel Farke says Junior Firpo could miss Watford next Friday
Firpo has been excellent since the turn of the year. Starting the campaign injured and not making it to the bench until the 1-0 away win over Leicester, Firpo was made to wait due to the form of Sam Byram.
But since then, he has become a crucial part of Farke’s side – starting 12 of the last 13 games. Firpo has also laid on five assists in that time, proving just as effective going forward – as he is in the back line.
However, he still has his critics and it remains to be seen what happens this summer. Phil Hay says he still has his issues – and the chances are, he won’t get a new deal. His current contract is until 2025.
