Daniel Farke has given his opinion on Jayden Bogle’s decision not to close down Luca Koleosho in Leeds United’s 1-0 defeat to Burnley.
Bogle was left all alone at the back for the Clarets’ winning goal in West Yorkshire as Manor Solomon’s slip in possession from Ilia Gruev’s corner proved costly.
Burnley were ultimately rewarded for being the more clinical of the two sides, in what was a game of very few chances.
Leeds did miss two guilt edged opportunities in the first half through Mateo Joseph and Wilfried Gnonto which should’ve gone in, but the lack of creativity on show was a huge disappointment.
It certainly does further highlight why Daniel Farke was so frustrated at Leeds’ failure to sign another number 10, though some criticism does have to go his way due to the tactics on display.

Farke on Bogle decision in Leeds defeat
Bogle was certainly put in a difficult position for Burnley’s winning goal as he was literally left all alone with the rest of Leeds’ defence in the box for the corner.
However, he should’ve acknowledged much earlier that Koleosho was always the danger man in that situation considering how comfortable he is carrying the ball over large distances.
Bogle had more than enough time to pick his moment and close down the space for Koleosho to get his shot away, but stood off for far too long before eventually going over.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Farke believes Bogle was put in a difficult situation but certainly had the opportunity to prevent him from getting a shot away.
He said: “We have safety with Jayden there. Even if we don’t win the first ball, we win the second ball. Why he [Solomon] decided to turn around, he underestimated the situation. We sent the centre backs up. Two against one.
“Jayden initially does the right thing, but then he missed the moment to step out for the pressure on the finisher. Through Jayden’s legs, no chance for Illan.”
Bogle has not had easy start to life at Leeds
On paper, Bogle looked a really good signing in the summer considering his pedigree at this level, but he has struggled so far.
Bogle certainly had decent games in both of Leeds’ wins before the international break to his credit, but there have been some defensive frailties.
The issue so far is that he just looks slightly too lethargic whenever he is asked to do any defending, which is something that can be changed.
However, he now has both Sam Byram and Isaac Schmidt who can play there and so he needs to improve to keep his place in the team.
