What was quite clear from new signing Connor Roberts’ comments after his move to Leeds United was that he was open to a permanent switch – with his current deal just a straight loan from Burnley.
Leeds finally announced the addition of the 54-time Wales star from Burnley on loan until the end of the season, after Thursday’s 11pm deadline. He spoke after, saying he is already keen to join permanently.
Leeds fans will not get to see Roberts in action until this weekend’s clash against Rotherham United. It comes after it was too late to register in time for last Friday’s clash against Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Not only was he missing from the 1-0 win, but also, Roberts will be cup tied for Tuesday night’s FA Cup replay against Plymouth. Farke says the former Swansea man will be travelling with the squad, anyway.
However, he will be ready to take on Rotherham this weekend at Elland Road – perhaps, the perfect one of the three to introduce him. At home, against a side that we should really be beating, comfortably.

Farke spoke about his addition, as per the club’s YouTube, in today’s presser – and his comments came as a hint Leeds had not only brought him in as a short-term deal, but there was long-term thought, too.
“A really good character and is still up the hill, in terms of his age. He’s desperate to come and be a part of this group. Physically, he’s in a good shape. He will be a good option quite soon, we’ll give him time.”
The fact that Leeds have considered Roberts in terms of age, is proof that Farke does not only see the right-back as a loan signing. If Roberts was simply signed just for this season, age wouldn’t be an issue.
But, Farke stating that he is still improving and yet to reach his peak, rather than falling the other side of that curve – like Luke Ayling – suggests Leeds are looking at a long-term deal, beyond his current loan.
