Another 2-0 win for Leeds United saw them re-establish a five-point lead at the top of the table, but they should have scored more against Frank Lampard’s Coventry.
Leeds fans sang their song at Frank Lampard and the Coventry manager retaliated after full-time but in truth, Daniel Farke’s side could have mirrored the 7-0 win over Cardiff given the amount of chances.
Joel Piroe opened the scoring after a mistake from Ellis Simms allowed Manor Solomon to play in Leeds’ top scorer, who took his tally to 13 for the season. Then, Jayden Bogle somehow managed to score.
A fourth goal of the season for Bogle. But in the second half, Leeds should have at least scored two or three more with Dan James, Brenden Aaronson and Piroe all guilty of missing chances for The Whites.

Daniel Farke delivers verdict on Junior Firpo after Coventry win
Firpo has an astounding 14 goals and assists in 44 Championship games, 13 of which are assists and three of those came on Saturday against Cardiff. On Wednesday, he probably should have had more assists.
Farke was asked about the left-back in his post-match press conference, and the German says he “loves” Leeds’ £13m signing from Barcelona. However, he urged fans not to get too carried away with Firpo.
“I love Firpo, happy with him but let’s not get too carried away. We don’t have to praise individuals today. Byram has not lost one game in my starting XI, he is chipping in with team spirit and is reliable.”
Junior Firpo’s stats for Leeds United in win vs Coventry City
On Wednesday night, Farke put in Ilia Gruev instead of Joe Rothwell to be more defensively solid in the middle of the park. The same argument could be given regarding whether to start Firpo or Sam Byram.
Junior Firpo’s stats for Leeds against Coventry:
- 90 minutes, FotMob rating: 7.3, XG+XA: 0.22
- One shot on target, one big chance missed, three touches in opposition box
- 75 touches, 43 successful passes, 49 attempted (88%)
- 10 defensive actions: two tackles, two-headed clearances, four clearances
- Five duels won, six duels lost
But Firpo was excellent again even without getting his name on the score sheet, or creating a goal. Leeds are dominating games and proving solid by keeping the ball, even if they only had 54% possession.
Up next for Leeds is Millwall in The FA Cup and the chances are, Firpo will be rested and Byram will come in ahead of next Tuesday’s Championship clash against Watford away from home.
