The Yorkshire Evening Post claim Daniel Farke ‘barked’ at Leeds United teenager Archie Gray during Thursday night as the Whites beat Nottingham Forest 2-0 at the Pirelli Stadium – as Gray was introduced onto the field at half-time.
The 17-year-old has played in all three pre-season friendlies. He came off the bench at half-time in Oslo against our rivals Manchester United, started against Monaco and then on Thursday, played the second half against Forest.
Leeds started with Jamie Shackleton, who continues to impress in midfield or at right-back. Ethan Ampadu was the best player on the pitch, according to Tony Dorigo. Gray came on at the break, and Darko Gyabi not long after him.
Towards the end of the match, there was a moment where Gray received possession just inside his own half and went round three Forest players. He then attempted to release the ball to Ian Poveda – but his pass was underhit.

“Farke was an animated figure on the touchline and showed just how high his standards are when Gray beat three men with skill, strength only to undercook a pass to Poveda. Farke let Gray know all about it, barking at the teen.”

It was a wonderful bit of skill to go past the three players, gliding past top-tier opposition as if they were running in water. However, his pass was under hit and left him out of position. It is clear, Farke is all for the flair, if it comes off.
The German wants his system stuck to, he wants defensive solidity first, before expansive, all-out attacking football. The Bielsa attraction, easiness on the eye, combined with defensive unity at the back. Against Forest, it was good.
