Tony Dorigo has told LUTV during his role as co-commentator on Thursday night that Ethan Ampadu was the best player on the pitch before being subbed on 55 minutes for Darko Gyabi – as Leeds beat Nottingham Forest 2-0.
Ampadu, 23, started for the second time this summer after his £7m move from Chelsea, almost lasting the hour mark. The 43-time Wales man looked assured, solid in possession and hard-working, combative without the ball.
Partnered by Jamie Shackleton for the first half, and Archie Gray for the handful of minutes he was on the pitch in the second – Ampadu looks every penny of the money we have spent to sign him. A comfortable, encouraging night.
Patrick Bamford opened the scoring with a lovely bit of skill, before Ian Poveda netted a brilliant second. Dorigo praised Ampadu following his sub exit, and shared what Daniel Farke did on the touchline after he left the game.
“Best player on the pitch, he was superb again. Daniel Farke is clapping and giving him a big hug as he comes off the, he is getting what he wants out of him. Really good performance. He brings so much to our side, commanding.”

It was a really, really solid performance from Ampadu on a personal level, but also Leeds as a whole. There were excellent outings all over the park. In the first half, Jamie Shackleton, Ampadu, Dan James and Sam Byram starred.
In the second, Ian Poveda stole the show with a wonderful 45 minutes – capping it off with a goal. Archie Gray was again, superb – proving age is just a number. But you can already see, Ampadu is going to be a wonderful signing.
