Dan James was absent from the Leeds United squad for a second consecutive game on Monday night as The Whites cruised to a 4-0 win in the Welshman’s absence.
Nominated for the Championship’s Player of the Season award alongside Sheffield United star Gustavo Hamer and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, winger James has been absolutely sensational for Leeds.
A tally of 12 goals and nine assists this season has seen James become a crucial member of this side and arguably, Daniel Farke’s best player. But in the 1-0 away win over Middlesbrough, James got an injury.
The winger suffered a hamstring injury and it saw him miss the home win over Preston. James came on as a late substitute against Oxford, but he didn’t look himself and was absent from the 6-0 win over Stoke.

Dan James admits chances are “slim” to play against Plymouth
James was also missing from the squad on Monday as Leeds cruised to a huge 4-0 win over Bristol City. Ao Tanaka, Willy Gnonto and a brace from substitute Largie Ramazani got the job done for Farke’s men.
Speaking to reporters after Leeds’ convincing win and promotion celebrations on the pitch, James was asked if he will be fit to play against Portsmouth. The Welshman admitted that his chances are limited.
“Great scenes. We played without pressure. Ultimately we’ve got one more game to win. Slim chance I’m involved (vs Plymouth),” James said, with Leeds needing to match Burnley’s result to win the league title.

Dan James admits disappointment at Player of the Season award
James was nominated alongside two Leeds-linked transfer targets, in the form of Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer and Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. But on Sunday, Hamer was handed the award.
A bit of a surprise to many, with most of the opinion that James would win it and if he didn’t, then Trafford would obtain the award given Burnley’s record. James admitted he was a bit disappointed with it.
“Not getting Championship player of the year? I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little bit disappointed. Two other great players. Congrats to Gustavo [Hamer],” James added in his post-match chat with reporters.
It is not as if Leeds will be desperately missing James at Plymouth, with Gnonto scoring a second goal in two games and Ramazani coming off the bench to net twice against a normally, much-better Bristol City.
