It won’t make a difference financially or when next season’s Premier League starts, but Leeds United have pipped Burnley to the Championship title right at the last hurdle.
Leeds needed to match Burnley’s result on Saturday in order to remain above Scott Parker’s side at the top of the Championship table. Parker’s side went unbeaten for a 33rd match, beating Millwall 3-1.
So, Leeds needed a win but Daniel Farke’s men initially went behind to Plymouth through an own goal scored by Sam Byram. Willy Gnonto made it 1-1 soon after half-time, but Leeds struggled for a winner.
Then in the dying moments with only a couple of minutes of injury time remaining, Manor Solomon cut inside to score the winner and send the away end into utter pandemonium – and securing the league title.

Jaidon Anthony posts on Instagram as Leeds beat Burnley
Jaidon Anthony has found himself in a strange position this season. Last season, he was a fringe player at Leeds – often coming off the bench and starting a few, before returning to Bournemouth after his loan.
Anthony’s form at Leeds and Burnley compared:
| Team | Games | Minutes | Goals | Assists | Minutes per G+A |
| Leeds | 38 | 879 | 2 | 2 | 219.8 |
| Burnley | 43 | 3675 | 8 | 7 | 245 |
He then joined Burnley on loan last summer. Anthony went from playing for Leeds, to being a direct rival for the Championship title – for a moment on Saturday, he thought he scored the goal to win the title.
But Solomon’s goal put an end to that. Anthony took to Instagram afterwards: “Fair play, an unbelievable season, grateful for this group, we’ve vibed out the whole way. My smile is back! luv 4 the luv.”
Glen Kamara and Crysencio Summerville respond to Anthony post
Anthony may have only enjoyed a bit-part season at Leeds, but at Burnley has was pivotal. First choice for Parker’s men in front of right-back Connor Roberts, Anthony had a hand in 15 goals in 43 Burnley games.
Responding to Anthony’s post were a couple of his old Leeds teammates, in West Ham star Crysencio Summerville and Glen Kamara – who has since joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab on loan from Rennes.

With Burnley now promoted, Anthony will sign permanently for Burnley for an £8m fee. One of four loans that Burnley will turn permanent, meaning that have spent £40m without even improving the current side.
Alongside Anthony, striker Zian Flemming will sign permanently from Millwall while Marcus Edwards loan from Sporting Lisbon will also become permanent. Bashir Humphreys will join from Chelsea this summer.
