‘Could be a possibility’: Fabrizio Romano shares what he has heard on Leeds’ pursuit of 22-year-old

Fabrizio Romano says it ‘is a possibility’ that Leeds United will sign Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley.

Romano was speaking to Give Me Sport, where he provided an update on Leeds’ pursuit of the 22-year-old ahead of Friday’s 11pm deadline.

He claimed Leeds are expected to be really ‘busy’ in the last 48 hours of the window and are now discussing internally whether to ‘attack the situation’.

O’Riley first emerged as a target for Leeds on Wednesday evening with Sky Sports reporting the Whites are set to battle Southampton for the Celtic star.

As per the Scottish Sun, Leeds have already seen an offer knocked back by the Scottish Champions, who are bracing themselves for further bids in the next couple of days.

Romano says O’Riley to Leeds ‘a possibility’

In an update provided to Give Me Sport, Romano says there is a ‘possibility’ Leeds are able to sign O’Riley as they target the addition of midfielders before the deadline.

He said: “I think it could be a possibility, yes. They are discussing still internally about that and waiting to see if they can attack the situation in the next hours. But yes, I think this could be a possibility and I still expect Leeds to be busy in the finals days of the window. So, that remains one of the options for sure.”

O’Riley is one of several midfielders Leeds are looking at before Friday’s deadline as they look to add at least another two on top of what they already have.

Given his age, pedigree and quality, O’Riley would represent a significant coup for Leeds if they could get it done, as he has also been linked with top-flight club across Europe.

He is one of numerous players they are considering with Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev also having been heavily linked with a move to Elland Road.
