Leeds United’s 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon saw Daniel Farke’s men return to the top of the Championship table, as Sheffield United return to second place.
Of the four teams in with a shout of finishing in the top two, Leeds played last over the course of the weekend. Sunderland and Burnley did battle on Friday night, before Sheffield United beat Norwich City.
The latter duo could only draw 0-0 and that saw Chris Wilder’s side go top of the table on Saturday, with a comfortable 2-0 win over Daniel Farke’s old side. But Leeds secured a 3-0 win at Elland Road on Sunday.
While it might not have been a 3-0 game, Leeds secured all three points and with 19 games left to play, that is all that matters. A good win, even if Daniel Farke was angry during the second half of the victory.

Chris Waddle predicts if Leeds will finish in the top two
The first Leeds United game broadcasted live by ITV since the 90’s saw Chris Waddle alongside Stuart Dallas on punditry duty as Leeds ran out 3-0 winners at Elland Road, doing the double over Wednesday.
Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka all added to their goal tallies as Leeds secured a win. Asked after the game, England icon Waddle told ITV he expects Leeds to finish in the top two this season.
“It’s two of four teams now. It’s whether they can get it right away from home. If they can pick it up away they’ll be one of the top two. They should be. I’d be very surprised if they don’t go up, they’ll be top two.”
What Pablo Hernandez said about Leeds chances of promotion…
With 19 games left to play, Leeds are a point clear of Sheffield United but in the eyes of supporters, a first-place finish is not the be all and end all. It is simply finishing first or second, to secure promotion.
Leeds have a dismal record in the play-offs and as Angus Kinnear has put it on numerous occasions, Leeds do not want to be messing around with the mini, end-of-season tournament between 3rd-6th.
Leeds icon Pablo Hernandez is also confident of promotion at Elland Road this season, mirroring what the Spaniard helped Leeds do back in 2019-20 under Marcelo Bielsa. But, Leeds still have 19 games to play.
