The tide has turned at Leeds United, and the feel-good factor is back. Five points in three games with two matches left to play in 2025, and Chris Sutton says one player is “incredible”.

Leeds have climbed out of the relegation zone right when Daniel Farke was expected to be given the sack. The German gaffer watched his side lose six of seven matches, only beating West Ham during that run.

Leeds win and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scores – change my mind 👊

Fifth goal in a row, incoming

On Saturday night, Leeds have a huge chance to go six points clear of the relegation zone. The Whites host Crystal Palace, with the Eagles having played in Europe on Thursday night and changes are expected.

Meanwhile, West Ham go to Man City. A win at Elland Road and an expected loss for the Hammers would open up a six-point gap. Sutton praised Dominic Calvert-Lewin, his vote for Sports Personality of the Year.

Chris Sutton would have had Leeds star over Rory McIlroy

On Thursday night, Rory McIlroy was named Sports Personality of the Year after winning the Grand Slam. An incredible achievement and yet, Sutton says he would have picked Calvert-Lewin if it were his choice.

In his BBC Sports column, Sutton says he would have chosen Calvert-Lewin if his run of goals in a Leeds shirt had begun earlier. An incredible shout from Sutton, given the prestige of such a massive title.

“If Dominic Calvert-Lewin hit this run of form a little bit earlier, he would have been my vote for Sports Personality of the Year. Four goals in four games, his leap to score against Brentford was incredible.”

Calvert-Lewin made the right choice after summer decision

While the Sports Personality of the Year award might be a bit much, Calvert-Lewin needed his next move to work and he had a big decision to make. He could have joined a bigger club, earning more money.

Newcastle, Milan and Man United were all interested in Calvert-Lewin. But he ignored those moves and the money, likely because he knew he would not start for them and would be used as a plan-B striker.

Instead, he chose Leeds over being a back-up striker at a big European club. After a difficult start, he has been a stunning addition for the Yorkshire side, and if he keeps scoring, the World Cup is a possibility.

Certainly, if Calvert-Lewin scores for Leeds on Saturday night, it will see him score in a fifth consecutive Premier League game. His best personal record, a record that will see Calvert-Lewin match Mark Viduka.
