The last fortnight has seen a handful of Leeds United players show what they are really capable of. One of those players is striker Lukas Nmecha, following his arrival at Elland Road in the summer.
Nmecha joined Leeds on a free transfer from Wolfsburg in the summer. He was the first of Daniel Farke’s first 10 additions but the German’s addition was only supposed to be as a back-up striker at Elland Road.
How good has Lukas Nmecha been so far this season? 🔥⚽
Leeds have picked up a bargain from Wolfsburg
Leeds confirmed such plans themselves. However, after four months of Premier League football, Nmecha finds himself top scorer for Leeds this season on four goals, alongside his partner Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Nmecha has risen to the occasion in the last few weeks, even scoring a disallowed goal against Chelsea which would have seen him score four goals in four games. But Chris Sutton has not been impressed.

Chris Sutton delivers verdict on Leeds striker Lukas Nmecha
Often outspoken in his analysis, Sutton proved he only rarely watches Leeds in his verdict on Nmecha. The former Premier League winner was speaking on BBC Radio’s Monday Night Club earlier this week.
“The problem Leeds have when Nmecha plays as a central striker is that he will run in behind. But he doesn’t offer up, he’s not good enough in his hold-up play, his link-up play,” Sutton said about Nmecha.
Nmecha has been a revelation for Leeds, on a free. Possibly even the best and most valuable signing, given Nmecha was bought for nothing. The big striker has been instrumental to Leeds’ return to form.
Which changes should Daniel Farke make for Brentford? 📝
Ao Tanaka has got to start, surely!
Lukas Nmecha is second only to Erling Haaland in one key stat
As things stand, Erling Haaland boasts the best XG in the Premier League. Understandable, given the City striker is by far and away the Premier League’s best goalscorer, and he is playing in one of the best teams.
However, Nmecha boasts the Premier League’s second-best XG rating. Haaland has a rating of 0.99 per 90 minutes, while Nmecha has a rating of 0.81. The next-best is Liverpool’s Federico Chiesa, with 0.78.
Nmecha has been a wonderful signing for Leeds. The verdict given by Sutton on Nmecha is not fair. The striker’s first touch, ability to battle two centre-backs, aerial prowess and speed have made him crucial.
