The feeling among Leeds United fans is that actually, the 10 summer signings have done little to improve Daniel Farke’s side and the club’s best players are those that helped get Leeds promoted.
Obviously, while on a run of six defeats in seven games, it is difficult to pinpoint any players who are actually showing a decent level of form. Joe Rodon has been consistent throughout the campaign.
Certainly, the Wales star is the first name on the team sheet at the moment, hardly putting a foot wrong despite his centre-back partner or formation changing. Rodon has easily been Leeds’ best player so far.
This is difficult: Who is Leeds United’s best signing so far? 🤑
Explain why!
But in terms of the new signings, Sean Longstaff had probably been Leeds’ best. But now, the midfielder has suffered a calf injury, and Longstaff could be missing the next seven games, having missed Man City.
With Longstaff out and Gabi Gudmundsson’s good start unravelling, there is one summer signing that is getting better and better. A key Premier League stat proves he has been Daniel Farke’s best addition.

Lukas Nmecha is proving to be Daniel Farke’s best signing
Right at the start of the window, it came out of the blue when reports emerged that Leeds were about to sign Lukas Nmecha on a free. The two-time Germany star was the first of the 10 signings in the door.
When he was signed, Leeds made it clear he was only a back-up signing and a big-name striker would follow Nmecha. Dominic Calvert-Lewin was that man, but Nmecha is now Leeds’ top scorer, with four.
Yes, two have been penalties – technically one penalty, the other a rebound after a spot-kick was saved – but Nmecha was signed for nothing. A free transfer and yet, he is currently first choice for the Whites.
Four changes in our predicted Leeds United XI v Chelsea
Lukas Nmecha second in Premier League, behind Erling Haaland
What Leeds fans love about Nmecha is his ability to do a bit of everything. This is a man with a solid burst of pace, but one that can hold it up and challenge a defender aerially, while boasting a good first touch.
When Leeds signed Nmecha, there were doubts about his injury record, about his form. But actually, he is proving to be an incredibly astute signing. One would suggest it is a Farke signing, not Adam Underwood.
| Name | Club | Games (Starts) | Goals | XG per 90 |
| Erling Haaland | Man City | 13 (13) | 14 | 1.02 |
| Lukas Nmeha | Leeds | 13 (4) | 4 | 0.84 |
| Jean-Philippe Mateta | Crystal Palace | 13 (13) | 7 | 0.77 |
| Federico Chiesa | Liverpool | 9 (0) | 2 | 0.75 |
| Igor Thiago | Brentford | 13 (13) | 11 | 0.70 |
He is a threat, and that is proven in a key Premier League stat. Nmecha is averaging an XG per 90 minutes of 0.84 and there is only one player in England’s top flight that has averaged more, in Erling Haaland.
With Lucas Perri struggling to convince, Calvert-Lewin Noah Okafor and Anton Stach in okay-ish form and Sebastiaan Bornauw, Jaka Bijol and James Justin struggling to start, Nmecha is easily Farke’s best signing.
