Chelsea now want to sign £20m Leeds man to bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s squad

Chelsea have identified Leeds United’s Tyler Adams as a potential alternative to Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo this summer.

That is according to the Times, who report Mauricio Pochettino has added to a shortlist of targets as they continue to struggle to reach an agreement with Brighton over the signing of Caicedo.

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia, Ajax’s Edson Alvarez and Celta Vigo’s Gabri Veiga are also among the names under consideration.

Chelsea have made Caicedo their top target this summer but are reluctant to meet Brighton’s £100 million valuation of the Ecuadorian having recently seen an £80 million bid turned down.

The Blues remain in talks over a deal for the 21-year-old, but are now starting to assess other options in the event they are forced to turn their attentions elsewhere.

Chelsea identify Leeds’ Adams as Caicedo alternative

Adams is among the players San Francisco 49ers Enterprises are keen to keep this summer, but that has not stopped Premier League sides from registering their interest.

According to the Athletic, Adams also has a release clause in the region of the £20 million Leeds paid for him last summer, that became active after the club’s relegation.

Adams is still recovering from a hamstring injury that has kept him out since March, with Daniel Farke revealing last month he may not return until after the September international break.

That has so far deterred potential suitors from making their move this summer, though August is always the busiest month of the transfer window.

If Chelsea were to meet Adams’ £20 million release clause, it is almost impossible to see him turn down a move.
