Leeds United are eyeing a move for Rangers defender Borna Barisic before the end of the January window and The Ibrox club are eyeing up a left-back of their own – in Bristol City star Cam Pring.
Barisic, 31, has entered the final six months of his contract at Rangers and is expected to leave the club maybe this month – or at the end of the season. The Gers have made an attempt to keep him, as well.
Indeed, they have offered him a new deal – a player that Gary McAllister says has a “beautiful left foot”. But with interest from Leeds and top-tier sides in Europe, it looks as if Barisic could be about to leave.
Rangers also have David Jurasek of Benfica and Dinamo Zagreb’s Marko Bulat on their shortlist, but The Sun now say Pring is a contender. It comes after another brilliant campaign over at Ashton Gate.
Rangers are considering a move to lure Pring north of the border and away from boyhood club Bristol City – and former Leeds midfielder Carlton Palmer believes Rangers would have to spend just £2m.
“Bristol City would receive a fee in excess of £2m in my opinion. Manning could have that money to re-invest in the team. It would be a massive blow for City. He’s made the left-back berth his own.
“He’s played every game this season. He’s been outstanding. It’ll be very disappointing, this is football, and I’m sure Manning will be looking for a capable replacement,” Palmer told Football League World.
Rangers replacement for Leeds target could cost bargain £2m
Pring is a quality option on the left and at a fee of just £2m, he would be a bargain buy for Rangers. He might not be the kind of quality that is required to start – but for £2m, he is certainly a bargain buy.
That fee will surely tempt Philippe Clement’s side and if they do make a move for the Bristol City man, then surely that will open the door for Leeds to land Croatia star Barisic – which could also be a bargain.
