Leeds United want to sign Rangers left-back Borna Barisic this month and Gary McAllister is a big fan of the Croatia international – once saying the long-serving Ibrox star has a “beautiful left foot”.

Barisic, 31, has starred for Rangers. Nearing six years at Ibrox, the Croatia star has been excellent for Rangers – playing 224 games for the Scottish side. Winning the Premiership unbeaten, and the Cup.

That as well as reaching the Europa League final, losing only on penalties to Frankfurt. His form this season has been questionable, and Barisic has entered the last six months of his deal. Leeds are keen.

But Rangers want to keep him, too. Non-Scottish sides can approach Barisic on a pre-contract deal to get him for nothing at the end of the season now. Ligue 1, La Liga and Serie A sides want Barisic, too.

Leeds are said to want to bring Barisic to Elland Road this month – a player that Leeds once bid £8m for in 2020, under Marcelo Bielsa. Leeds legend McAllister was Steven Gerrard’s assistant at Rangers.

Gary McAllister is a big fan of new Leeds target Borna Barisic

He worked with Barisic for the three and a bit years that Gerrard was manager of Rangers, a part of the set-up that helped guide Rangers to the Premiership title – without losing a single league game in 20-21.

Speaking about Barisic and the battle for the left-back spot with now-Fulham defender Calvin Bassey in August 2021 – as per Glasgow Live – McAllister was full of praise for Barisic and namely, his left foot.

“We have two quality full-backs, we have someone with a beautiful left foot in Borna and then we have a young guy in Calvin who has that energy going up and down the left side,” McAllister said, about Barisic.
