Burnley vs Leeds United predictions in crucial battle in Premier League relegation race

Leeds United take on Burnley on Saturday in an absolutely crucial fixture in the battle for Premier League survival.

It’s been a promising start to the season for Leeds United, who have shown themselves capable of competing in the Premier League.

Opta thinks Leeds will stay up after their good start and they would have even more points on the board if they hadn’t conceded some late, soft goals.

Daniel Farke’s side sit 15th in the table and could be higher, but they could just as easily slip down into a dangerous position.

That’s what makes Saturday’s fixture with Burnley so crucial. Leeds are yet to face one of their fellow promoted sides, but have to beat the two teams they finished above last season if they want to stay up.

Here’s how Leeds United News writers think the game will go.

Leeds are much better than Burnley now – Will Butcher

Call me optimistic, but I think the gap between Leeds and Burnley has got bigger compared to last season in the Championship.

I expect Leeds to go to Burnley and prove difficult to break down, but nab one or two on the counter. Whoever scores first will win here. I expect a low-scoring affair.

Prediction: Burnley 0-1 Leeds.

Noah Okafor could make the difference vs Burnley – Adam Elliott

This should be a tight and low-margin game, much like the two last season.

The stakes remain just as high, albeit at the other end of the table after two 100-point seasons from Burnley and Leeds last time out.

The game should become stretched late on, with neither likely to settle for a point. I’d back the individual quality in Leeds’ attack and on their bench to find a winner, if I had to pick one of the two to find one.

Noah Okafor is someone I expect to see get some joy here, not least after scoring two in his last three appearances for the Whites. Maybe he’s the match-winner, or he sets up the winning goal.

Prediction: Burnley 0-1 Leeds.

Daniel Farke has delivered for Leeds in the biggest games – Robert McHugh

Eight games in feels early to call this a must-win game, but it certainly represents a must-not-lose for Daniel Farke and Leeds.

Both teams have scored seven so far this season, with the difference coming from the goals against – Leeds have conceded 11 to Burnley’s 15 – so this is something the Whites can look to exploit.

Farke has been pretty good at delivering in the games that matter the most, with Wolves providing the perfect example. I expect him to do the same this weekend in a tight game.

Prediction: Burnley 0-2 Leeds
