Blackburn Rovers player shares what he’s noticed about ‘nasty’ Leeds United this season under Daniel Farke

Leeds United will need to secure an 11th Championship win of the season on Saturday afternoon to return to the top of the table, but face Blackburn Rovers in their way.

Sheffield United’s 1-0 win over Sunderland on Friday night saw Chris Wilder’s men go top of the table. Former Everton midfielder Tom Davies scored the only goal, as both sides finished the game with 10 men.

Leeds go to Ewood Park and take on a Blackburn side managed by John Eustace. Eustace got the better of Daniel Farke on two occasions last season – once with Birmingham City, and then as Blackburn boss.

Leeds come into the game with three wins in a row, beating QPR, Swansea City and then Luton Town on Wednesday night. A comfortable win, but an away trip to in-form Blackburn will surely prove a tough test.

Blackburn star Aynsley Pears shares verdict on Leeds United

Blackburn though, are also in solid form. Two consecutive wins both away from home, beating Cardiff City by three goals to one and then a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough on Wednesday night at The Riverside.

Blackburn goalkeeper Aynsley Pears has been key to that, keeping six clean sheets in his side’s 16 league games this season. Speaking to Blackburn’s website, Pears described Leeds as “nasty” in his comments.

“They have great fans, travel in numbers, they’re nasty and they want to win more than anyone. They’ve also always had a good team. Huge game, there’ll be plenty of fans, the atmosphere will be really good.”

Aynsley Pears recalls Blackburn’s win over Leeds last season

In April 2024, Leeds were struggling. Failing to cope with the pressure of pushing for an automatic place for promotion, the Whites lost 1-0 at home to Blackburn – albeit a Blackburn with Sammie Szmodics.

The now-Ipswich Town striker scored the only goal of the game at Elland Road, throwing a big spanner in the works as Leeds eventually succumbed to a play-off place. Pears recalls last season’s win against Leeds.

“We were in the trenches really and we needed a win. They were high-flying and I had a good game that day. It was a great day for the lads, we all loved it and the fans did as well,” Pears told Blackburn’s site.
