Leeds United ended the summer transfer window with nine new signings.
It was a frantic summer both on and off the pitch at Elland Road, with a change of ownership that saw new backroom staff come in, a new manager appointed, and a mass turnover of players.
Including Weston McKennie, Leeds lost 13 members of last season’s first team squad, with the majority of those having left on a season-long-loan.
However, after a slow start to the window, San Francisco 49ers Enterprises have done well to reshape the squad, which now looks as good as anyone in this division.
So, with that in mind, here is a look at Leeds’ best possible XI now the window is closed.
Goalkeeper
Illan Meslier had been expected to leave Leeds this summer but did not receive a great deal of interest. Despite the signing of Karl Darlow from Newcastle United, Meslier remains Daniel Farke’s number one.
Defence
After the shambolic nature of Leeds’ defence last season, this was a position that required strengthening and it certainly looks like they have done so.
Both Djed Spence and Joe Rodon come straight into the side after joining on season-long-loans from Spurs, with Pascal Struijk also starting at centre-back.
It is a straight toss up between Sam Byram and Junior Firpo at left-back, but based on his form so far, the former gets the nod here.
Midfield
For once it what feels like an eternity, Leeds finally have some depth in that midfield position, which could cause some selection headaches over the course of the season.
Ethan Ampadu is an absolute shoe-in after his £7 million move from Chelsea, but who partners him is another question.
Archie Gray has looked excellent in his debut campaign as a first team player, but will now face competition from Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev after their £5 million arrivals this week.
Based on what we know about each player, Kamara just about edges it here.
Attack
Losing Luis Sinisterra so late on was a huge blow for Leeds, but even after his exit, Farke still has one of, if not the best set of attacking options in the league.
After Sinisterra’s exit, Wilfried Gnonto can now make that position on the left his own, with Crysencio Summerville on the other flank.
£10.5 million signing Joel Piroe partners Georginio Rutter down the middle, with the likes of Jaidon Anthony, Dan James and Patrick Bamford providing excellent cover.
