BBC pundit issues verdict on Daniel James display in Leeds win

Neil Redfearn has issued his verdict on the performance of Daniel James after Leeds United beat Middlesbrough at Elland Road on Saturday.

Redfearn was speaking on BBC Radio Leeds (broadcast on 2/12; 17:02) after Daniel Farke’s men extended their winning run at home to consolidate their third place spot in the Championship.

Once again, Leeds went behind to an early goal – just as they did against Swansea City in midweek. And once again, the Whites fought back to take a 3-1 lead.

It was Daniel James who equalised for Leeds with a header in the first-half. James scored a brilliant goal against the Swans. And he has now found the back of the net for the sixth time this season.

James has certainly a lot of his critics over the course of this campaign. He is now into double figures for goal involvements in the Championship. Only Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter have managed that so far.

And Neil Redfearn made quite the claim as he shared how impressed he was with the Wales international’s performance against Boro.

“I thought in wide areas, Summerville was brilliant. James, that’s the best I’ve seen him live for me,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“And obviously, I’ve missed a few just lately, but since the start of the season. I thought he was brilliant. He was always a threat. He took his goal well.”

Leeds winger is proving his doubters wrong

James has been in amazing form of late. The winger has actually scored five goals in his last six league games.

As Redfearn alluded to, having Summerville and James on either wing is such a game-changer for Daniel Farke. Certainly, if a team can find a way to handle the pace of James, they struggle to then keep Summerville’s trickery quiet, and vice-versa.

Obviously, we are playing at a lower level, but James deserves so much credit for the way he has bounced back this season.

It did not sit right with many how Leeds loaned James out last season. But he has put that behind him and fought his way into the fold with some brilliant performances.

Redfearn clearly feels that the best of the lot came on Saturday.
