Everton manager Sean Dyche says Leeds United target Tom Cannon could still leave before the end of the window.

Dyche was speaking to Liverpool World in his pre-match press conference ahead of Everton’s trip to Aston Villa, where Cannon’s future was among the topics discussed.

As per Alan Nixon, Leeds have been keeping an eye on Cannon’s situation this summer, though Preston North End remain favourites to re-sign him on loan.

Nixon also reported that Everton were expected to make a decision on Cannon’s future on Wednesday, but have been forced to delay it.

Dyche is reluctant to let him go until a new striker is brought into his squad, with a bid having been made for Southampton’s Che Adams on Friday.

Dyche remains open-minded on Leeds target Cannon’s future

If they able to land a striker, that could be the greenlight for Cannon to leave Everton, and Dyche says it is something they will monitor in the remaining two weeks of the window.

He said: “He’s only just got fit. He played 45 minutes the other day, so we’ll keep an eye on him and make sure he’s well. We’re keeping our minds open at this stage.

“We haven’t got a big squad as everyone knows, we haven’t got massive number of strikers, that’s quite obvious. He’s in the building for now and will view it accordingly as the window comes towards the end.”

Leeds remain strongly in the market for a new striker and it would be a huge boost if one was through the door for next week’s trip to Ipswich Town.

Cannon is among several names to have been linked with a move to Elland Road, and his tally of eight goals in 20 appearances for North End last season shows he has what it takes to make an impact at Leeds.

Hopefully Everton are able to wrap up a deal relatively quickly for Adams and we will then know the whereabouts of Cannon’s next club.
