Harry Gray became the latest member of his family to appear for Leeds United on Friday night.

Gray was brought off the bench for the final 15 minutes to get his first taste of senior football in a Leeds shirt, all be it in a non-competitive match against Harrogate Town.

The 15-year-old will be hoping to continue the legacy left by his great uncle Eddie, grandfather Frank, father Andy and most recently brother Archie.

Archie had dreamed of playing alongside his brother at Leeds but was unfortunately sold to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month for £40 million.

He hadn’t been in any rush to leave Elland Road after just a year of first team football, but Leeds’ PSR concerns meant it was a deal that had to be done.

Archie Gray reacts to younger brother Harry’s Leeds debut

Having Archie’s younger brother in the academy is a slight consolation to his departure, as it means the Gray name can live on for a while longer yet.

Seeing a boyhood fan making their breakthrough is always a great moment for Leeds supporters, and Gray even had his own version of his Archie’s chant at Harrogate yesterday.

Handing him first opportunity to play in front of supporters in Leeds’ first game since Archie’s departure was actually clever management by Daniel Farke, as it was a way of showing how much faith they have in him, and that another Gray is not too far away from following in his brother’s footsteps.

However, he was quick to ease expectations regarding how involved he might be this season, pointing towards how young he still is.

That certainly won’t take away from what a special moment that was for him yesterday, though, and he expressed as such on Instagram at full-time.

And brother Archie was among those to respond and send him a message of congratulations in the comments.

Every word Daniel Farke said about Harry Gray after debut for Leeds

As mentioned, Farke made it his mission in his post-match interview to ensure that expectations do not become too high on how involved he could be this season.

In fact, Farke made it pretty clear that it will be too early for him to have any involvement at all, but did reiterate how highly he is rated at Elland Road.

He said: “No, he is a 15-year-old lad and obviously we have to be a bit careful. He is a guy with lots of talent, I don’t like to praise young lads too much and put them in the spotlight.

“But today was a good scenario and chance to give him an appetiser for first team football, but we can’t expect to see him pretty, pretty soon right now.

“Full of potential, here and there he will get a chance to smell a bit how it is with the first team, but we will stay patient and won’t put too much load on his small shoulders.

“We have to work with him, but he also earned it with good performances at youth level. It was great for him more or less in his home stadium in the first public game for us.”
