Much has been made of Illan Meslier over the past few days, and it comes as no surprise after another poor performance for Leeds United.
Leeds’ promotion bid now looks under serious threat, and Meslier is a big contributor to that.
Ross McCormack thinks Meslier won’t be dropped as people have mentioned Karl Darlow to come into the frame.
The Frenchman’s two errors were preventable, to say the least, and with the whole of Elland Road on Meslier’s back, it won’t do him any favours.
Alan Pardew has revealed his thoughts on the situation and has opted for a reason to defend the Leeds keeper.

Alan Pardew’s verdict on Leeds United’s Illan Meslier vs Swansea
It’s not a good look for Meslier, who has made countless errors now for the Whites.
Daniel Farke has a serious weight in Meslier on his shoulders, as Leeds’ form doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon.

However, Pardew can see why Meslier deserves some sort of sympathy, sharing the same point with Paul Merson who also defended Meslier.
Pardew spoke to talkSPORT (30/03/25) and explained his reasoning as to why he sympathised with the Frenchman.
“I’ll slightly defend him on that (the second goal) because that was a great hit,” Pardew said.
“If he hadn’t made the first mistake, it might have been forgivable.
“The second mistake sort of rubber-stamped the error earlier.”

Leeds’ Meslier finds himself among unwanted company again
It seemed just a couple of weeks ago that Meslier was having a revival at Leeds.
But after the Swansea encounter, that hard work has been undone with these errors.
Adding to Meslier’s woes, there is an alarming stat involving the Frenchman that has emerged.
Meslier has a strong save percentage at Leeds, but it’s his goals prevented this season that sends a serious message to the Leeds hierarchy.
| The least goals prevented this season in the Championship | |
| 19. | Illan Meslier: -2.7 |
| 20. | Thomas Kaminski: -3.2 |
| 21. | Freddie Woodman: -3.5 |
| 22. | James Beadle: -3.9 |
| 23. | Angus Gunn: -7.1 |
It seems like any chance left for Meslier doesn’t exist anymore, and Leeds won’t be getting promotion anytime soon if their goalkeeper is performing at this level.
