Adebayo Akinfenwa has spoken to Troy Deeney to provide his verdict on the Premier League relegation picture, including what is in store for Leeds United.
Leeds United’s place in the Premier League is one they will be desperate to consolidate this season under Daniel Farke. But not every pundit is confident that they will be able to do so.
Neil Warnock thinks Leeds have ‘enough’ to survive relegation, but other Leeds figures do not all share that view. Danny Mills has provided his view of Leeds and relegation in a less favourable light.
Troy Deeney was most confident Leeds would be relegated out of the promoted trio before a ball was kicked in 2025/26. More recently, Deeney has recently had a change of heart on Leeds’ survival chances.
Adebayo Akinfenwa disagrees with Troy Deeney’s Leeds view
It’s fair to say pundits are changing their minds on the newly-promoted trio from these early-season performances. However, Adebayo Akinfenwa spoke with Deeney recently and he has not shared the same view of Leeds’ chances.
Speaking on Deeney’s show ‘The Football Exchange’, Akinfenwa said: “Relegation? Relegation. You know who I think’s going to be in trouble this year? West Ham [United].
Deeney replied: “I agree.”
Akinfenwa added: “I think West Ham are in trouble. I think West Ham, Burnley, and actually I’m going to say Leeds. I’m gonna say West Ham, Burnley, Leeds.”
Deeney responded: “Mine at the start of the season was Burnley, Leeds, Wolves.”
Akinfenwa added: “Oh, to be fair, I did forget about Wolves. Oh, toss up between Wolves and Leeds. I forgot about Wolves. But I do actually think West Ham.
“Oh, they just got Nuno to be fair. No, I’m going to go Wolves, Leeds, and Burnley.”

It remains a debated topic and it is likely to for the foreseeable. Others are more positive about the Whites, including Jamie Carragher’s view of Leeds’ survival chances before the campaign even began.

Peter Crouch outlines what is crucial to Leeds’ PL survival chances
Nedum Onouha has explained what Leeds must do to survive, with his comments very similar to another popular pundit in Peter Crouch of TNT Sports.
Crouch’s view of Leeds and relegation is perhaps the most accurate, given he thinks survival will hinge on their home form and making sure Elland Road is a fortress.
He said: “Certainly at home, they’re going to pick up points. The energy, sprints, closing down, the atmosphere — if they keep that up for the whole season, they’re going to be fine.
“I was really impressed with them, Leeds.”
There is a long way to go, but it looks to be the most accurate call, given five of their eight points have already come at home — and against tough opposition, too.
