Josuha Guilavogui had a bit of a nightmare game against Millwall last time out, as Leeds United were dumped out of the FA Cup by Alex Neil’s side.
Millwall came to Elland Road and left as deserved winners, progressing into the next round of the FA Cup at the expense of Leeds United who can now fully focus on the league.
Leeds were poor against Millwall. But Daniel Farke did make 10 changes to the XI that beat Coventry City 2-0 in the game before, with several fringe players coming into the side, including Josuha Guilavogui.
But Guilavogui failed to impressed against Millwall. Many think the Frenchman should’ve been sent off for a horror tackle in the first half, but he remained on the pitch until the 69th minute when he was replaced by Ao Tanaka.
Leeds United signed Guilavogui as a free transfer in October. Farke desperately needed midfield options following the injury to Ethan Ampadu and former France international Guilavogui has now featured 13 times in the Championship for the Whites.
Adam Pope gives brutally honest assessment of Josuha Guilavogui after Millwall
Speaking on the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast, BBC pundit Adam Pope has given his verdict on Guilavogui’s position at Leeds United following the game against Millwall. But it’s not good for the 34-year-old midfielder.
Pope gave what he himself said is a ‘harsh’ assessment of the veteran Frenchman, saying: “He was free. You’re putting in a freebie like that, you get what you’ve paid for, essentially, which is you’ve paid nothing so you get nothing.
“That’s really harsh and I don’t mean it that way, but I’m just trying to put it in a bit of context.”
Guilavogui signed on a deal until the end of the season and looks destined to become a free agent once again in the summer.
What Daniel Farke has said about Josuha Guilavogui’s Leeds United future
Speaking recently, Farke gave his verdict on Guilavogui’s future at Leeds United. But the German refused to be drawn into speculation about what the future might hold for Guilavogui.
He said: “At the moment, there is no time to be distracted contract talks. For Josh, we signed him late and it was time to concentrate.”
Farke later added: “There is no time to waste energy about individuals or what happens in the next six months, we’ll have some proper conversations when it’s time to do this.”
With Leeds United in 1st place of the Championship table and looking good for promotion to the Premier League, expect contract talks to be shelved until the season is done and dusted, and Leeds know what league they’ll be playing in next season.
The Whites return to Championship against Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night.
