Joe Rodon continues to shine for Leeds United as he becomes a fan favourite at Elland Road and Dominic Matteo has compared the on-loan Tottenham Hotspur defender to Jonathan Woodgate.

With Pascal Struijk injured, Liam Cooper coming in and out of the side and Ethan Ampadu reverting to the middle of the defence – 26-year-old Rodon has provided some consistency in the face of change.

Despite a number of different centre-back partners in the middle of the back line, Rodon has continued to shine and actually, get better as the season goes on. He has 10 clean sheets in 26 Leeds matches.

Leeds of course, would love to sign Rodon permanently – even if he might cost £20m. Daniel Farke says it is something Leeds will pursue but this month, it is not urgent. The Whites may need to get promoted.

Speaking about Rodon on the latest Leeds podcast on Wednesday, Leeds icon Matteo was discussing the new relationship between Rodon and Ampadu in defence – and compared Rodon to Woodgate.

“They compliment each other. They read the game well and Joe Rodon is absolutely rapid. His pace is a help for everyone. He is like Woodgate – Woodgate was very, very quick. Their partnership is very good.”

Rodon has been exceptional for Leeds. A top, top signing. Probably on a par with the arrival of current centre-back partner Ampadu. Leeds have got to do everything in their power to get him permanently.

If Leeds are to do anything, keeping players fit like Rodon, Ampadu, Cree Summerville, Georginio Rutter and even Dan James now is key. Absolutely crucial. Without these players, we will struggle to go up.
