‘A big thing’… £7m player says he is feeling so much happier at Leeds United all of a sudden

Leeds United have made a brilliant start to the calendar year of 2024.

The Whites have won all six of their Championship matches so far and have also progressed through to the fifth round of the FA Cup after overcoming Peterborough United and Plymouth Argyle.

It is fair to say the turn of the New Year has handed some fringe players fresh opportunities. Junior Firpo, Ilia Gruev and Patrick Bamford barely played in the first half of the season, now they are key.

The latter did not start a single game until the New Year’s Day win over Birmingham City, but has not looked back since and was voted the club’s player of the month for January.

Upon receiving the award, Bamford has been speaking in an interview with leedsunited.com, where he claimed he is back to enjoying his football again after a tough period on the pitch.

Bamford back to enjoying himself at Leeds

He said: “I’m feeling good, I’m happy and I’m just enjoying playing football again. That was a big thing for me. Now it’s just about getting back into it and getting a run of games under by belt. I always said, that I believed I would score when I played.”

Bamford’s goal against Birmingham City last month was his first since April and it is clear to see just how much of a weight has been lifted off his shoulders since.

Through injuries, lack of game time, and poor form, the £7m man Bamford really struggled across the whole of 2023 but his latest run in the starting XI has allowed him to find his rhythm again.

Leeds have won every game in which he started in the Championship this season, with his movement in behind offering something different to what anyone else can in the squad.

It is good to see him back playing well again and hopefully he can keep getting on the scoresheet to help fire Leeds to another promotion back to the Premier League.
