Leeds United got back to winning ways after a difficult run of form during the Christmas break with an easy 3-0 win over Birmingham City – and Daniel Farke had a lot of praise for ace Patrick Bamford.
Bamford was handed his first start of the season. It comes after Leeds had lost two successive matches against West Brom and Preston, leading to Farke making changes to take on Wayne Rooney’s Blues.
After a long, long time – Bamford got his goal. His first since the 4-1 loss to Bournemouth back in April, and the first in 17 league outings this term. A well-placed header, from a perfect Dan James cross.
It got the ball rolling, as Leeds went on to secure a crucial three points – on a weekend where Ipswich, Southampton and West Brom all dropped points. Dan James and Cree Summerville also scored goals.
Speaking after the match, Farke shared how Bamford had regained his manager’s trust after being given the chance to shine. He says the goal will be “priceless” for his confidence, as quoted by Leeds Live.
“He’s been on it in training. Last two or three weeks we gave him his chance. Repaid my trust back with a solid performance. Crucial goal. Priceless for confidence. Need him in his best shape. Important day.”

It will be priceless. Not just for Bamford’s confidence, but also – for his place in the side. Joel Piroe will surely be looking over his shoulder after a couple of tricky performances. Certainly, he will be happier.
With the January window now upon us, Bamford’s future might have come under the microscope this month given he had failed to start. One of the club’s biggest earners, one that would generate interest.
But even Farke thinks Bamford is happy enough, and the goal and rare start will do him the world of good. Had he harboured any desire to search for a potential exit, surely Monday’s win will change that.
