Lee Bowyer was linked with a shock return to Leeds United towards the end of the Premier League year last season – but has now taken over at Monserrat in a surprise move, winning 3-2 in his first game.
Bowyer, 46, had been out of work for more than a year after leaving Birmingham City in the summer of 2022. The ex-Leeds winger, who played 265 times for the Whites, was linked with replacing Javi Gracia.
The Mail claim that Bowyer was in line for the Leeds job, with four games left. But instead, it was Sam Allardyce that arrived at Elland Road – alongside Robbie Keane and Karl Robinson. Relegation occurred.
But even despite going down – Bowyer still wanted the Leeds job. Following our drop, he told TalkSPORT that he felt he could get Leeds back into the Premier League. But Leeds chose to bring in Daniel Farke.
Now, Bowyer has a new job. Images emerged on Twitter over the weekend that saw him coaching the National Team of Montserrat. He secured a 3-2 away win in his first game – a late win over Barbados.
Linked with Leeds; Bowyer joins Montserrat in surprise move

Indeed, his captain and star strike Lyle Taylor – who is a free agent after leaving Nottingham Forest – scored twice. The second of which was a 97th-minute winner. A brilliant start for Bowyer in the role.
But, of course, a bit of a surprise given the Caribbean island are ranked 179th in the FIFA rankings. But he will be tasked with a surprise qualification out of the CONCACAF Nations League group games.
Next up for Bowyer, Taylor and Montserrat is a tricky away clash against the Dominican Republic. A game that had Junior Firpo been fit, might have seen the Leeds left-back face Bowyer. Strange world.
