£42m international facing ‘disciplinary measures’ weeks after snubbing Leeds United, he surely regrets it now

Just weeks after turning down the chance to sign for Leeds United, Douglas Luiz now finds himself in hot water at current club Juventus.

Leeds United’s summer transfer window is shaping up very nicely ahead of the club’s Premier League opener against Everton on August 19th.

Midfield duo Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach have signed for Leeds United in deals worth more than £30m, combined, and now it looks like Daniel Farke will turn his attentions elsewhere on the pitch.

Already this summer, Leeds have signed six new players, with two centre-backs arriving, two central midfielders, a full-back in Gabriel Gudmundsson, and a new striker in Lukas Nmecha.

Whether or not we see another central midfield signing remains to be seen, if not unlikely. But Douglas Luiz may well be ruing the fact that he didn’t take up the chance to move to Elland Road.

Douglas Luiz facing Juventus disciplinary after Leeds United snub

Earlier in the summer, Luiz emerged as an unlikely chance target to Leeds United, but reports linking him with a move to West Yorkshire quickly gathered speed after it was revealed that Leeds were set to be handed the chance to sign Luiz from Juventus following his failed £42m move from Aston Villa this time last year.

After a bit of back and forth in the media, it was then revealed that Luiz had turned down the chance to sign for Leeds United this summer, and just weeks after that it has now been revealed that Luiz has skipped training and faces disciplinary matters at Juventus.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano posted on X on Thursday revealing that Luiz did not show up for pre-season training at Juventus and that the club are now set to take disciplinary measures with the 27-year-old player.

What has Daniel Farke said about more midfield signings at Leeds United?

It is widely expected that after the signings of Longstaff and Stach, that Leeds United will not sign any more central midfielders, and so a move for Luiz seems well and truly over.

And given Leeds United’s ongoing links to Igor Paixao at Feyenoord, it seems as though Farke is turning his attention to the final third of the pitch, with more strikers, wingers and a new number 10 likely to be signed this summer.

Speaking after the signing of Stach from Hoffenheim, Farke said: “So for me, it’s important that the core bones of the group are there right now. So that means the central defence, also the central midfield is more or less sorted.”

Luiz, given his worsening situation at Juventus, may now be ruing the chance that he didn’t sign for Leeds United this summer.

It would have been an exciting signing for the Whites, though fans are more than happy with the signings of Longstaff and Stach ahead of the new season.
