Daniel Farke may make a few changes to his Leeds United XI on Wednesday after the disappointing draw at Rotherham, and Jaidon Anthony’s record against Swansea City should see him considered.
It has been a difficult season so far for Anthony. Signed on loan from Bournemouth on deadline day with Luis Sinisterra going the other way, Anthony has featured in all 12 Championship games since joining.
But, he has only started twice – and one of those was the 1-0 loss to Stoke. On Friday, Ian Poveda was preferred to Anthony, Daniel Farke explaining why he chose to use Poveda over the £25k-a-week star.
Leeds need to get back to winning ways but Farke must also consider Saturday’s tough test against Sam Greenwood’s Middlesbrough. Less than 72 hours, after hosting Swansea. This League is relentless.
So, rotation could be required. The likes of Sam Byram and Pascal Struijk are more than likely to return to the side. But does Farke rest more of his best XI, in order to keep them fresh for Saturday’s clash.
Daniel Farke should consider Leeds start for Jaidon Anthony
That might see him change his options out wide. He should do, not only to keep the likes of Dan James and Cree Summerville fresh, but also because Anthony’s record against Swansea is quite remarkable.
He’s played against the Welsh side three times in his career, having a hand in four goals. His first ever game against Swansea, in the 21-22 season in which Bournemouth were promoted – he got a brace.
A 2-0 win over the Swans. The reverse fixture, a 3-3 draw – Anthony, nabbing an assist. This season, he has already played against them in the Carabao Cup – a 3-2 win, and another assist away from home.
Two wins and a draw in three games, two goals, two assists. Farke really needs to consider Anthony not just due to rotation, but because his record against Michael Duff’s men is superb. Just his third start.
