Links between Leeds United and Kerem Akturkoglu came as a surprise when the news first surfaced in December given he plays for Galatasaray – and now, it looks as if he’s done a u-turn on his future.
Akturkoglu, 25, has caught the eye with his form for Galatasaray this season. Indeed, he has had a hand in 16 goals for the Turkish side including two goals vs Manchester United in the Champions League.
Of course, the rivalry between Galatasaray and Leeds remains after the stabbing of two Leeds fans back in April 200 – on the eve of a UEFA Cup semi-final. Links with Leeds then, came as a surprise last month.
It seems a bit unrealistic for Leeds to ever willingly do business with the Turkish side, even if it is almost 24 years since that tragic incident. But this week, reports from Turkey said Leeds had made a move.
It was also said that Galatasaray were preparing to say ‘goodbye’ to Akturkoglu. But not, Sporx say that Akturkoglu held a meeting with Gala last night – agreeing to sign a new contract with the SuperLig side.

The report states he will double his salary, but will still only earn £10,000 a week. A wage that Leeds can still increase, should the Whites decide to make a move. A release clause is also set to be inserted.
Indeed, Galatasaray want a £21.5m release clause, while Akturkoglu wants a cheaper price – at £13m. Leeds then could still remain interested, but it looks as if he is set to sign a new Galatasaray contract.
Leeds do need a no.10 and Akturkoglu might be the man Farke has identified. But, the major sticking point with a move for the player is the relationship between the clubs – and fan reaction to that.
