Sean McGurk was a surprise exit on deadline day, announced by Leeds United after the deadline with the playmaker joining League Two side Swindon Town – and he’s made an instant impact.
The 20-year-old was a regular for the U21 Leeds side after swapping Wigan for Elland Road in the summer of 2021. But, in those two and a half years, he failed to make a senior debut for the Whites.
He did play 48 times for the 21’s, having a hand in 17 goals. His best form came during the first half of this term, scoring four goals and laying on three assists in eight Premier League 2 appearances.

Perhaps, that inability to break into the senior side tempted McGurk to try something new and on the final day of the January window, he joined Swindon on a permanent basis. He’s found his feet quickly.
He made his first professional outing in a loss to Newport, before earning a start against Gillingham on Tuesday. His full debut – and he scored a stunning left-footed strike to open the scoring in a 2-2 draw.
Sean McGurk scores on full Swindon debut after leaving Leeds
A brilliant game in England’s fourth tier, McGurk gave his side the lead but Gillingham came from 1-0 down to lead 2-1 – with Oliver Hawkins and Connor Mahoney scoring twice, inside just 11 minutes.
Then, fellow new Swindon signing Harry McKirdy – back in his second spell at the County Ground – got an equaliser for The Robins. Swindon posted a video of McGurk’s goal, curling a shot into the corner.
A brilliant goal and hopefully for both McGurk and Swindon, a sign of what is to come. When he did leave, Leeds fans questioned the exit and now, perhaps, McGurk is on a mission to prove Leeds wrong.
