Coventry City are reportedly asking for a £16m fee for Gustavo Hamer despite the star being in the final year of his contract – and while it would be an expensive signing, he may be Daniel Farke’s next Emi Buendia at Leeds United.
Hamer, 26, starred for Coventry last season. While Viktor Gyokeres scored goal after goal for Mark Robins’ side, it was Hamer that supplied the creativity. From attacking midfield, he had a hand in 21 goals – scoring 11, creating 10.
Plenty of clubs are keen with Coventry missing out on promotion, losing at Wembley in the play-off final. Hamer’s contract situation means Coventry might have to cash in, or risk losing him on a free. TeamTalk say they want £16m.
Phil Hay told the The Square Ball that Leeds are interested in him – but clearly, it is going to be a difficult deal to get done. Premier League sides Burnley, Fulham and Nottingham Forest are all looking at him. But Leeds are in the mix.

Coventry ask for £16m Hamer fee, may be Farke’s next Buendia at Leeds
While it would be a hugely expensive signing for Leeds, especially given we are now a Championship side – Leeds need a no.10. Brenden Aaronson has gone. It leaves Leeds with Sam Greenwood, probably our only natural no.10 fit.
Farke is expected to use the 4-2-3-1 system that has seen him gain promotion twice from the Championship with Norwich. Buendia played in both Norwich’s promotions as Farke’s no.10 – having a hand in 52 goals in 77 games.
To make Farke’s system work, Leeds need to sign a no.10 that can make the team tick – and Hamer would certainly do that, judging by last season’s form. While he’d cost £16m, Hamer significantly bolsters our chances of going up.
