The Championship table makes for good reading if you are of a Leeds United persuasion. Five clear of Sheffield United and eight in front of Burnley, with the two sides in action on Wednesday night.
Daniel Farke’s side are pretty unstoppable at the moment. Six clean sheets, and 13 goals scored in three games after a 4-0 hammering of Watford away from home. Yet, Daniel Farke knows there’s work to do.
Adam Pope said eight wins would do the job before Tuesday night’s win and now, that means Leeds need 21 points from the remaining possible 42. Given Leeds have lost three all season, it seems very achievable.
Especially, with Tom Cleverley describing Leeds as a mid-table Premier League side following the win over his Watford side. But he is not the only Watford employee that was left in awe of swashbuckling Leeds.
Watford player Imran Louza names the “best team in the league”
There aren’t many players in the Championship that are better-positioned to be able to determine which team is the best in the League. Imran Louza has faced Leeds, Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland.
On Tuesday night, he lasted the entirety of the 4-0 defeat to Leeds. Speaking after the game, the £10m Watford signing described the Yorkshire side as “the best team in the league” on Watford’s YouTube.
“It’s a difficult night for us. But we have to accept it, we played against the best team in the league. When you make a mistake in these games, you concede straight away. We have to stick together and go again.”
The next fortnight will determine how close Leeds are to title
This is a crucial period between now and the end of the month. Leeds take on Sunderland at Elland Road next Monday and then Sheffield United the Monday after, two teams that can make or break promotion.
If Leeds can avoid defeat and hope that Sheffield United, Burnley and Sunderland drop points in their other fixtures, then Farke’s men are well on their way to the Premier League. But avoiding defeat is key.
Go one better and win both games, and Leeds will not only have one foot in the Premier League but they will have one hand on the Championship title. Farke’s third Championship trophy, throughout his career.
