Panicked Leeds United fans believe relegation is certain if ‘hopeless’ star isn’t replaced

Leeds United have called for one ‘hopeless’ player to be replaced in the January transfer window after Saturday’s shocking defeat to Brighton.

It was a dreary day on the seaside for Leeds United, who were terrible as they were dominated and dismantled by Brighton in defeat.

Daniel Farke set out his side to sit deep and the error of his ways was made immediately apparent when Brighton went ahead through Danny Welbeck within 11 minutes.

Things never looked like improving and a second-half brace from Diego Gomez compounded Leeds’ misery.

Though Noah Okafor tried his best, Leeds offered little attacking threat and some supporters have blamed Dominic Calvert-Lewin for that, with some saying Leeds need to sign another striker in January or will be relegated.

Leeds United fans furious with Dominic Calvert-Lewin

It was another quiet showing in attack for Calvert-Lewin, who once again failed to even get a shot on target.

What was particularly frustrating was that Jayden Bogle delivered a great ball into the box at 1-0 that the striker failed to anticipate or take a gamble upon.

Leeds fans are understandably fuming after the result and performance, with practically every player and Farke coming in for criticism.

Calvert-Lewin has especially caught the supporters’ ire.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, @SJDewar1990 said: “If Leeds don’t sign a proper striker in January, we’re going down. DCL is b_____ awful!”

Talking about Calvert-Lewin’s failure to meet Bogel’s cross, @jackpetit1919 said: “DCL missed the goal… unheard of!!!”

“Longstaff and DCL are hopeless,” @1234steve16 posted, while @mightywhitesfc said: “We are impotent up front. DCL has one goal all season, woeful.”

@Ellish0803 said: “Bamford had good hold up play so what’s the point in signing DCL and letting Bamford go? Realistically we are a relegation battle team this season that will need to rely on goals. 1 goal after 2 months in this league is absolutely poor, yeah, he’s good on ball but needs to score.”

Finally, @jwh1982 sarcastically wrote: “He’s been great doesn’t score but been great. “Hope at the end of the season if we finish in bottom 3 they might say but Leeds can’t go down cos they have DCL and Arronson who run around.”

Daniel Farke must drop Dominic Calvert-Lewin against Nottingham Forest

It tends to take a really dreadful result to force Farke into changing his starting XI and that’s exactly what the defeat to Brighton was.

Other than Bogle, Okafor and Joe Rodon, no one has completely nailed their spot in the side and that should especially apply to Calvert-Lewin.

The striker has started the last seven games but has just one goal, now going five without finding the back of the net.

Lukas Nmecha replaced him at the Amex and though the German didn’t have much service, he did manage to get the team’s first shot on target with a well-taken effort.

Meanwhile, Joel Piroe has only had the chance to start in one league game. One of them must come in for Calvert-Lewin in next weekend’s humungous-looking fixture against Nottingham Forest.
