Leeds United fans openly turned on head coach Daniel Farke during the second half of their clash with Aston Villa.

Lukas Nmecha gave Leeds the lead in a frenetic encounter with Villa, as Leeds looked to climb out of the Premier League relegation zone.

However, Unai Emery made a double change at half-time, which inspired his side, as Ethan Ampadu failed to stop a cross from Donyell Malen, allowing Morgan Rogers to prod home.

With Villa ramping up the pressure on the Leeds goal, Daniel Farke waited until the 70th minute to make a change, when he eventually made a pair of changes.

But the Elland Road crowd showed its frustration before then, taking aim at the Leeds manager for his reluctance to change the flow of the game.

Leeds United fans’ frustration with Daniel Farke boils over

Farke’s reluctance to make early changes is a regular bone of contention among Leeds fans, and it was evident again in the game against Villa.

Leeds fans vocalised their anger on the hour mark, after Brenden Aaronson lost the ball as Leeds poured forward on the counterattack.

First, the fans chanted Dan James and Willy Gnonto’s names, urging the Leeds boss to shake up his attacking trio.

Then, three minutes later, the fans chanted, “Make a sub”, as Ethan Ampadu was forced to take a yellow card as Youri Tielemans threatened to break for the away side.

Chris Sutton questions Ao Tanaka substitution

Farke’s changes failed to have the desired impact, as Rogers added his second just five minutes after the changes, when Pascal Struijk brought him down on the edge of the box.

One of those changes was to remove Tanaka, who was brought on in the first half when Anton Stach suffered a head injury.

Mixed messages involving Daniel Farke after the Aston Villa loss…

“The longer this run continues for Leeds, you would fear for the manager.”

Jamie Carragher

“For me, replacing the manager, I’m not sure it’s definitely the right thing to do now, given the games we have coming up.”

Aidy White

“Believe me, in terms of pressure, the first day you walk in the door as Leeds United manager, you have pressure.”

Speaking on the Sky Sports coverage of the game, summariser Chris Sutton questioned the decision to remove Tanaka, stating: “I think he’s looked neat and tidy, Tanaka. Aaronson will come into that central midfield role.

“I understand bringing Daniel James on, Leeds have struggled at times to get up the pitch in the second half. He’s a ball carrier. Calvert-Lewin will give them that focal point, that target to hit and play off.”
