For the Leeds United transfer team, attention will have already switched to the incoming January window after the summer market slammed shut and one player could be allowed to go on loan.

Leeds made eight signings in the summer including two on deadline day. They sold eight, let five go on loan and plenty more depart at the end of their contracts including Liam Cooper, who’s join CSKA Sofia.

But with Leeds lacking in depth in a couple of areas, there is still work to be done ahead of the winter window. That, and the future of a couple of players including some of Leeds United’s young players.

One is Luca Thomas, who is in the final year of his Elland Road deal having signed a one-year contract in the summer. Thomas was one of six youngsters included by Daniel Farke in the Germany training camp.

Leeds gem Thomas could exit on loan in January transfer window

Thomas’ stats in the U18 and U23 sides are impressive. He scored 23 goals in 32 games for the U18 side and prior to this season, Thomas had a hand in nine goals in 24 games for Leeds’ second string.

This season, Thomas has scored three goals in three games for Scott Gardner’s side. Gardner said after his latest goal that Leeds are lacking in depth up top, explaining why he used defender Kris Moore up top.

But despite that, the Yorkshire Evening Post say Thomas could be allowed to leave on loan in January with clubs in The Football League and the National League expected to be keeping a close eye on Thomas.

Thomas needs to impress and a loan is his best bet in January

With Thomas signing a one-year deal but already that contract likely to be his last, he needs to impress and scoring goals with the U21 side is not going to do that. He needs to shine at senior level, on loan.

He is not going to get that opportunity at Elland Road this season. Farke has Mateo Joseph, Joel Piroe, Patrick Bamford and Joe Gelhardt to pick from, all ahead of Thomas in the Leeds pecking order.

Unless there is a string of injuries, Thomas is not going to get anywhere near the first team so if he is to get first-team football then he must go on loan. Securing a loan in January could save his Leeds career.
