Leeds United cashed in on eight players in the summer with three big-name stars moving on to Premier League clubs and one of those was Archie Gray, causing outrage among Leeds fans.
Six months on from his Leeds exit, Gray has been made to wait for Tottenham game time in the Premier League but the Thorp Arch academy product has started and finished all 11 of Tottenham’s cup games.
Whether that is Europa League, FA Cup or Carabao Cup, 18-year-old Gray has played every single minute. In the Premier League, Gray had to wait until December before starting his first game for Tottenham.
But Spurs’ injury list has meant Gray has played at centre-back, starting five Premier League games in a row in defence, likely to continue against Arsenal. Ally McCoist feels sorry for Gray playing out of position.

Graham Smyth shares if Leeds have Archie Gray clause
When Spurs signed England U21 star Gray in the summer, it saw the North London club activate a £40m exit clause in Gray’s Leeds deal. Then, £10m of that was immediately reimbursed on signing Joe Rodon.
Whether Leeds had the option to include a sell-on clause or a percentage of a future sale, remains to be seen given it was Spurs activativing a clause themselves. But Graham Smyth confirms there is no clause.
Responding to a Leeds fan on X when asked if Gray has a sell-on clause that would see The Whites pocket some cash from a future sale of Gray, Smyth responded: “Alas, no.”
Archie Gray’s long-term future is at Tottenham, anyway
Following Gray’s performance against Liverpool in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou said it would anger him if he wasn’t working with Gray in two or three years’ time.
Spurs took a risk in signing Gray at £40m after just one season at senior level, albeit a very good one in a number of different roles. That is even if Jamie Redknapp predicted Gray would go on to play for England.
He signed a contract at Spurs until the summer of 2030 and Spurs will have no intention of losing Gray. Even if Leeds did include a clause, the chances of that being activated are small in the foreseeable future.
