Leeds United are reportedly among the clubs have that made bids to sign a South American player that is currently at Copa America, but Victor Orta is now expected to rival The Whites.

Out wide, Leeds need additions. The losses of Ian Poveda and Jaidon Anthony means Daniel Farke is now lacking in cover for Dan James, Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto with the latter duo likely to go.

It is unclear if Gnonto is happy to stick around in The Championship for a second season having tried to force a move away from Elland Road following relegation, while Crysencio Summerville has huge interest.

Brighton have opened talks for The Championship Player of the Year with other Premier League sides now linked. The need for wingers is growing and it might be that Leeds need two or even three additions.

Leeds are said to have table £12.8m bid for Arias

One player that Leeds are being repeatedly linked with signing is Colombia star Jhon Arias. The 26-year-old, described as the “most-creative” player in Brazilian football, is currently shining at Copa America.

He has helped his country, alongside Luis Sinisterra, reach the semi-finals after smashing Panama 5-0. A nation managed by former Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen, and they face Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay next.

Leeds are said to have tabled a £12.8m bid for Arias, but Atletico Madrid are likely to be front runners if Diego Simeone’s men enter the fray. Now, Win Sports say West Ham and Orta’s Sevilla are likely to bid.

Leeds likely to be left behind in running to sign Arias

Arias is a player that has continuously starred in South American football from either flank or even as a no.9. Brazil, domestically, is growing as a footballing nation and Premier League sides are taking note.

West Ham have already made signings from the Brazilian league this summer. There is now a trust that if a player is impressing at that level, he is good enough for the top tier of English football and Arias is that.

So, the Hammers, Atletico Madrid and Orta’s Sevilla present good opportunities for Arias. The chances of him ignoring those clubs to join Leeds seems incredibly unlikely, and Leeds will be focusing on others.
