Aston Villa are keen on signing Leeds United attacker Crysencio Summerville in the January transfer window – but The 49ers are desperate to keep the Dutchman in the push for automatic promotion.

Summerville, 22, has been on fire after being made a key player by Daniel Farke. His failure to get a goal or an assist on Boxing Day was just the second time in nine games, he hasn’t scored or created a goal.

Playing 21 times in the Championship this season, Summerville has scored 11 goals and laid on a further six assists. Incredible form. It comes after Leeds rejected a £20m bid from Burnley back in the summer.

Now, Fabrizio Romano echoes that stance that Leeds held in the summer. The 49ers do not want to sell their key asset, with Summerville on fire this term. But, Romano does state that Villa want to sign him.

Villa is a tempting proposition at the moment. Even after losing against Manchester United on Boxing Day evening despite being 2-0 up, they remain in the top three – and indeed, in Europe after Christmas.

Unai Emery is taking his Villa side to the next level and Summerville would surely fancy himself of having a chance of breaking into Villa’s side on a regular basis. But, he wouldn’t start to begin with, at Villa.

He might be better off seeing the season out at Leeds and then making a decision – depending on if Leeds get promoted, or have to do another season in the Championship. That will prove decisive.

The quick turnaround continues, with Leeds in action on Friday evening against West Brom. Illan Meslier will join those injured on the sidelines as he starts his three-match suspension. Rotation is likely.
