Chelsea are scouring Europe’s best left-backs after selling Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, and Leeds United defender Gabriel Gudmundsson has emerged as an option for Xabi Alonso’s new side.
It might come as little surprise to Leeds fans that Daniel Farke’s best players are coming under the eye of bigger Premier League clubs, after an impressive return to the top flight of English football last term.
£30m: Do you TAKE IT or LEAVE IT for Gabi Gudmundsson? ✅❌
Chelsea have been linked with GG.
A 14th-placed finish that might have been better with a bit of luck. Gabriel Gudmundsson’s own goal at Fulham springs to mind, early on in the season – a game in which Leeds had actually hit the crossbar.
Currently at the World Cup, Gudmundsson has started in a 5-1 win over Tunisia and a 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands. Now the Leeds star has emerged as a Chelsea target. Below, we have all the details.
Chelsea’s interest in Gudmundsson and Leeds United price tag
Earlier this week, Swedish newspaper Expressen reported that Chelsea had placed Gudmundsson on their shopping list. It will certainly concern Leeds fans, but Gudmundsson is one of a whole host of options.
The left-back has been one of Leeds’ best players over the last 12 months, ending the left-back dilemma that has dogged Leeds arguably since Charlie Taylor left in 2017. Leeds really won’t want to lose him.

But Financial Fairplay is something that must be considered and every player has his price. If Leeds are to follow the Brighton method, then they cannot reject bids and allow emotion to come into play.
TeamTalk say Leeds value Gudmundsson at three times the bargain £10m they paid Lille last summer. Gudmundsson was worth far more than £10m, but Leeds got him cheap because of his Lille contract.
What Gabriel Gudmundsson has said about Chelsea’s interest
Sweden are preparing to face Japan, with a point likely to be enough to take them into the knockout rounds. They might even get there with a narrow loss to Ao Tanaka’s men tonight at midnight.

Suzuki, Charles, Brandt and Wilson all linked.
Speaking in a pre-match press conference, Gudmundsson was asked about Chelsea’s interest. He kept his cards close to his chest: “It is clear that it is a confirmation that you are doing something good.
“[Right now] all the focus is on the national team here, so that is all I can comment on. I’ve worked with him [agent] for ten years, he knows that when I’m here I want to wear this shirt and focus on that.”
It certainly wasn’t Gudmundsson closing the door, but it certainly wasn’t a case of welcoming the interest either. Leeds are in a solid position, with Gudmundsson boasting three years left on his Leeds contract.
