Chelsea are in the market for new left-backs this summer after selling Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, and Leeds United star Gabriel Gudmundsson has emerged as an option.
Gudmundsson has only been in English football for one season, joining Leeds for £10.5m from Lille last summer. His lung-busting gallops down the left flank have earned huge admiration from Leeds fans.
How Leeds could line-up in 2026-27 with four new arrivals 👀
Suzuki, Charles, Brandt and Wilson all linked.
Alongside Anton Stach, Noah Okafor and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Gudmundsson is largely considered one of the club’s best signings since promotion. He’s currently at the World Cup with Graham Potter’s Sweden.
After a 5-1 win against Tunisia, Gudmundsson was also a part of the side that lost by the same scoreline to Crysencio Summerville’s Netherlands. Now, he could be set for an even busier summer, with an exit.
Chelsea want to sign Gabriel Gudmundsson, but it’s a mistake
According to reliable Swedish newspaper Expressen, Gudmundsson is one of a number of left-backs on Chelsea’s radar as they look to replace Euro 2024 winner Cucurella, following his £52m move to Madrid.
His form since his move to Leeds has certainly caught the eye. But Chelsea were already considering a new left-back before Cucurella left, and the chances are, they will sign two left-sided options this summer.

Gudmundsson is, without doubt, first choice at Leeds. To the point where Leeds are not even considering a replacement this summer, and if anything, Leeds may consider a player that can provide cover for him.
But if he were to move to Chelsea, and thus proved by their £43m capture of Marco Palestra, Chelsea are likely to sign a big-name left-back to replace Cucurella. Gudmundsson may end up providing back-up.
How much is Gudmundsson worth after £10.5m move to Leeds?
It was a bit of a bargain when Leeds got Gudmundsson. Adam Underwood took advantage of his deal with Lille entering a final year, and the Whites thrashed out a cheaper fee than it might have been.
Gudmundsson is Leeds, he just gets it.
Daniel Farke's best signing so far?
It is easy to imagine that had Gudmundsson had two or three years left on his deal, a fee between £15m and £20m would have been requested. Now, he has a full Premier League season under his belt.
That, and he’s become a Sweden regular. Leeds fans would be disappointed to lose Gudmundsson for anything below the £25m mark this summer, and given his form, a £30m fee would surely be requested.
