Leeds United may have been handed a late transfer window lifeline. It’s been reported that someone they desperately wanted to sign in the summer could be available again.

Leeds United were certainly active in the summer transfer window. They cashed in on a number of players, and for big transfer fees too with Archie Gray joining Spurs for £30million, as well as the likes of Georginio Rutter leaving and making a club record sale.

There were also nine signings at Elland Road. The pick of the bunch was the £10million signing of Joe Rodon, though there was also a handful of moves that Daniel Farke really wanted to pull off, but couldn’t in the end.

One of those moves was for Jonathan Rowe. Leeds were keen on signing Rowe from Norwich City, but the Canaries eventually sent the 21-year-old on loan to Ligue 1 giants Marseille.

He’s since scored twice and assisted twice in 17 Ligue 1 games for Marseille. But in the final days of this winter window, he could be sent back to Norwich City, and possibly somewhere else instead.

Leeds United summer target Jonathan Rowe poised for Marseille exit

Rowe snubbed Leeds and joined Marseille during the summer transfer window. It was only a loan deal, but the French giants have a £17million obligation to buy Rowe which they aren’t keen to trigger. He’s yet to impress manager Robert De Zerbi, however.

L’Equipe say that Marseille want to send Rowe back to Norwich City and it’s a move that could put a number of teams on red alert going into deadline day on February 3rd, with Leeds United possibly being one of them.

Leeds United have been linked with several attackers in the last few weeks, though most have joined other clubs or just seen their links to Elland Road die off.

Jonathan Rowe thinks the Elland Road atmosphere is ‘crazy’

Speaking before his move to France, Rowe was asked about the best stadiums he’s ever played in. He named Anfield, Old Trafford, and Elland Road among his favourites, with a soft spot for the latter.

Rowe said: “Elland Road had the most noise that I can remember. That I was a crazy game. Even though we lost I was just in awe of the atmosphere. I couldn’t believe it, this was what my dream was literally about. Even though we lost, it was just like, ‘wow’. Imagine being on the opposite side to that.”

Whilst both Leeds and Rowe might like a move to go trough before the window shuts, they both face two major obstacles: time and Norwich City.

There’s only 48 hours left in the January transfer window. Meanwhile Norwich City might now fancy Rowe for their own team with the Canaries struggling for firepower this season, and Rowe bound to get gametime there.

Ether way there looks to be a hectic couple of days ahead for Rowe.
