Burnley are likely to be right up there with Leeds United in the race to win promotion from The Championship next season, and Scott Parker is now rivaling Leeds for an £8m signing.

Defeat to Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley has left Leeds in the second tier for another season. Burnley are back in the Championship after just one season following Premier League relegation.

It is going to be a new-look Burnley, with Vincent Kompany leaving and The Clarets choosing to bring in Scott Parker as the club’s new manager. Leeds interviewed Parker before the appointment of Daniel Farke.

Parker has plenty of work to do over at Turf Moor as he looks to get a number of players out the door before bringing in some new faces, and one player he wants to sign also finds himself on Leeds’ radar.

Liverpool ready to cash in on Burnley and Leeds target

Described as “unbelievable” by Jamie Redknapp during his stint in the first team at Liverpool, Nat Phillips is expected to leave Anfield this summer. It comes after loan spells with Celtic and Cardiff last season.

The Athletic claim that Parker wants him at Burnley after earlier links with Leeds. The Whites are keen on doing a deal for the powerhouse defender, even after the signing of Joe Rodon on a permanent basis.

Farke has been a long-term admirer of Phillips having first become aware of the centre-back during his loan at Stuttgart, and trying to lure him to Norwich. The report says Liverpool want as much as £8m.

Trabzonspor talks show Liverpool willing to reduce price tag

The report states that Trabzonspor have seen a bid rejected for Phillips. But reports in Turkey make it clear that Liverpool were willing to reduce their price tag to as little as £5m for the defender in order to sell.

At that price, the likes of Leeds and Burnley would be picking up a bargain for a defender that is clearly one of the best when at this level. He has shown that during loans at Cardiff last term, and Bournemouth.

Whether Leeds feel it is necessary to spend more cash on another right-sided central defender remains to be seen, having done so in order to get Rodon back in at Elland Road on a permanent basis from Spurs.
